Preparation and Cooking
Rinse the Rice
Measure 1 cup of jasmine rice and rinse it under cold running water in a fine mesh strainer. Rinse until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, which helps prevent the rice from becoming gummy.
Soak the Rice (optional)
If desired, soak the rinsed rice in water for about 30 minutes. This step is optional but can help to achieve a softer texture.
Combine Ingredients
In a medium-sized pot, combine the rinsed (and soaked, if applicable) jasmine rice, 1.5 cups of water, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Stir gently to distribute the salt.
Bring to a Boil
Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Keep an eye on it to prevent it from boiling over.
Simmer
Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time as it can release steam.
Let it Rest
After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for an additional 10 minutes. This helps the rice to finish cooking in the residual steam.
Fluff and Serve
After resting, remove the lid and use a fork to fluff the rice gently. Serve warm as a side dish or as a base for your favorite stir-fry or curry.
