Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Make the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined. Form into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter.
- 2
Bake the Meatballs
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
Ziti Cooking
- 3
Cook the Ziti
While the meatballs are baking, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and return to the pot.
- 4
Add Marinara Sauce
Add marinara sauce to the drained ziti and stir to combine. Heat over low heat until warm.
Hoagie Assembly
- 5
Assemble the Hoagies
Cut the hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving one side attached. Place 3-4 meatballs in each roll, top with marinara sauce from the ziti, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- 6
Broil the Hoagies
Place the assembled hoagies on a baking sheet and broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 7
Serve
Garnish with fresh basil and serve with a side of ziti.
