Dough and Toppings

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add melted butter, salt, and flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead and Rise

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Prepare Cinnamon Sugar

In a small bowl, mix together cinnamon and brown sugar. Set aside.

  4. 4

    Roll Out the Dough

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. 5

    Sprinkle and Fold

Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough. Fold the dough in half lengthwise and roll it out gently again.

  6. 6

    Cut and Fry

Cut the dough into heart or elephant ear shapes. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry each piece until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Drizzle with Sauces

Once cooled slightly, drizzle with chocolate and caramel sauce before serving.
