Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or cooking spray.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Add the wet mixture to the dry mixture and mix until just combined. Then, carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and beat until smooth and spreadable. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 8

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving Instructions

  1. 9

    Serve with Ice Cream

Slice the chocolate cake and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
