Base Ingredients

For Frying

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, cheddar cheese powder, salt, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add water to the dry ingredients while stirring, until a thick dough forms. You may not need all of the water.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 4

    Shape the Cheetos

Using your hands, take a small amount of the dough and shape it into a large Cheeto shape (about 4-6 inches long).

  3. 5

    Fry the Cheetos

Carefully drop the shaped dough into the hot oil. Fry in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 3-5 minutes until golden brown.

  4. 6

    Drain the Cheetos

Remove the Cheetos from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Coating

  1. 7

    Mix the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix together the cheddar cheese powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.

  2. 8

    Coat the Cheetos

While the Cheetos are still warm, toss them in the cheese powder mixture to coat evenly.
