Method

Preparing the Fries

  1. 1

    Cut the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into fries, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Fries

Soak the cut fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  3. 3

    Preheat Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Potatoes

Drain the soaked fries and pat them dry with a paper towel. Fry the potatoes in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with salt to taste.

Preparing the Fish

  1. 5

    Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until smooth and free of lumps.

  2. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) for frying the fish.

  3. 7

    Batter the Fish

Dip each fish fillet into the batter to coat completely, allowing any excess to drip off.

  4. 8

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the battered fish fillets into the hot oil. Fry for about 5-6 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

Serve the crispy fish alongside the golden fries. Optional: Serve with tartar sauce and lemon wedges.
