Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.

  2. 2

    Sauté Aromatics

In a medium saucepan, heat the butter or olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 3

    Toast the Rice

Add the rinsed basmati rice to the saucepan. Stir well to coat the rice with the butter/oil and sauté for 2-3 minutes until the rice is slightly toasted.

  4. 4

    Add Liquids and Seasoning

Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, and add the salt, black pepper, bay leaf, and lemon zest. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  5. 5

    Cook the Rice

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice has absorbed all the liquid and is tender.

  6. 6

    Fluff and Garnish

Once cooked, remove the saucepan from heat. Discard the bay leaf and fluff the rice gently with a fork. Stir in the chopped parsley and adjust seasoning if necessary.
