Method

Preparation of Tuna

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tuna

Start by patting the fresh tuna steak dry with paper towels. This helps achieve a good sear.

  2. 2

    Season the Tuna

Lightly season the tuna steak with salt and pepper on all sides.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Olive Oil

In a non-stick skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  2. 4

    Sear the Tuna

Once the oil is hot, carefully place the tuna steak in the skillet. Sear for about 30 seconds on each side to achieve a crust while keeping the inside raw.

  3. 5

    Remove from Heat

After searing, remove the tuna steak from the skillet and let it rest for a couple of minutes.

Serving Preparation

  1. 6

    Slice the Tuna

Using a sharp knife, slice the seared tuna into thin slices, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 7

    Plate the Dish

On a serving plate, arrange the tuna slices. Drizzle with ponzu sauce and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

  3. 8

    Add Garnish

Finish by garnishing with chopped scallions and microgreens or cilantro for added flavor and presentation.
