Turkey

Stuffing (optional)

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Turkey

Remove the turkey from its packaging, and take out the giblets and neck from the cavity. Rinse the turkey under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

  3. 3

    Season the Turkey

Rub the entire turkey with olive oil or melted butter. Season generously with salt and black pepper, both inside and outside the cavity.

Stuffing (Optional)

  1. 4

    Prepare the Stuffing

In a large skillet, sauté diced onion and celery over medium heat until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a bowl, combine sautéed vegetables with breadcrumbs, chicken broth, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  3. 6

    Stuff the Turkey

If desired, loosely fill the turkey cavity with the stuffing mixture. Do not pack it too tightly.

Roasting

  1. 7

    Prepare for Roasting

Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan, breast side up. Tuck the wing tips underneath the turkey to prevent burning.

  2. 8

    Roast the Turkey

Roast the turkey in the preheated oven, allowing approximately 13-15 minutes of cooking time per pound. Baste the turkey every 30-45 minutes with pan juices.

  3. 9

    Check for Doneness

The turkey is done when its internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy.

  4. 10

    Rest the Turkey

Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven, cover it loosely with foil, and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes before carving.

Garnishing and Serving

  1. 11

    Garnish (Optional)

If desired, garnish the turkey with fresh herbs and lemon quarters before serving.

  2. 12

    Serve

Carve the turkey and serve it with your favorite sides.
