Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Steak

Thinly slice the ribeye steak against the grain into strips about 1/8 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Prepare Vegetables

Slice the green bell pepper and yellow onion into thin strips.

Caramelizing Onions and Peppers

  1. 3

    Heat Oil and Butter

In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat until melted.

  2. 4

    Add Onions and Peppers

Add the sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet and sprinkle with salt and black pepper.

  3. 5

    Cook Until Caramelized

Cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and caramelized.

Making the Cheesesteak Sauce

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine cream cheese, milk, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce.

  2. 7

    Stir Until Smooth

Stir the mixture continuously until the cheeses have melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.

Cooking the Steak

  1. 8

    Cook the Steak

In the same skillet used for the vegetables, increase the heat to medium-high and add the sliced steak. Cook for 3-5 minutes until browned.

  2. 9

    Combine with Vegetables

Add the caramelized onions and peppers to the skillet with the steak and mix well.

  3. 10

    Add Cheese Sauce

Pour the cheesesteak sauce over the steak and vegetable mixture and stir to combine.

Assembling the Cheesesteak

  1. 11

    Prepare Hoagie Rolls

Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, without cutting all the way through.

  2. 12

    Fill the Rolls

Scoop the steak and vegetable mixture into each hoagie roll.

  3. 13

    Top with Provolone

Place 2 slices of provolone cheese on top of the filling in each roll.

  4. 14

    Melt the Cheese

If desired, place the filled rolls under a broiler for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.
