Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brisket

Season the brisket with salt and black pepper. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Slice the Onions

Thinly slice the onions and chop the garlic cloves.

  3. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).

Cooking

  1. 4

    Sear the Brisket

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the brisket and sear on both sides until browned, about 5-7 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  2. 5

    Cook the Onions

In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until they're soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

  3. 6

    Add Flavorings

Stir in the garlic, thyme, and bay leaf into the caramelized onions, cooking for another 2 minutes.

  4. 7

    Combine Ingredients

Place the seared brisket into a large roasting pan. Pour the onion mixture on top, then add the beef broth and white wine.

  5. 8

    Cover and Bake

Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 3 hours, or until the brisket is tender.

Serving

  1. 9

    Prepare the Baguette

While the brisket is baking, slice the baguette into thick pieces and toast lightly.

  2. 10

    Shred the Brisket

Once cooked, remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before shredding it with two forks.

  3. 11

    Serve

Serve the shredded brisket topped with the onion mixture and a sprinkle of Gruyère cheese. Serve with the toasted baguette on the side.
