Hoagie Assembly

Method

Sausage and Vegetables

  1. 1

    Grill the Sausages

Preheat the grill to medium heat. Place the beef sausages on the grill and cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.

  2. 2

    Sauté the Vegetables

While the sausages are grilling, slice the onion and mushrooms. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 3-4 minutes until they are translucent. Add the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic, then cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and the garlic is fragrant.

Garlic Marinara Sauce

  1. 3

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine and let it simmer for 10 minutes. Just before serving, stir in the fresh basil.

Hoagie Assembly

  1. 4

    Assemble the Hoagies

Once the sausages are cooked, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise but not all the way through. Place a grilled sausage in each roll, top with the sautéed onions and mushrooms, and generously spoon the garlic marinara sauce over. Finish with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

  2. 5

    Serve

Serve the hoagies hot with additional marinara sauce on the side for dipping if desired.
