Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build and shake

Fill a cocktail shaker with crushed ice or ice cubes. Pour in 2 oz Sailor Jerry spiced rum, 1 oz coconut rum, 0.5 oz blackberry brandy, 2 oz pineapple juice, 1.5 oz orange juice, 1 oz cranberry juice, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters if using.

  2. 2

    Shake vigorously

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  3. 3

    Strain and serve

Fill a highball or hurricane glass with fresh ice. Strain the shaken cocktail into the glass, leaving any extra ice in the shaker. If you prefer a layered look (a visual 'shark attack' effect), pour the blackberry brandy slowly over the back of a spoon onto the filled drink so it sinks slightly to one side.

Garnish & finish

  1. 4

Skewer 2 fresh blackberries or a maraschino cherry on the cocktail pick and rest it across the rim of the glass. Add a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Optionally give the drink a final tiny spray of lime or a short dash of bitters on top.

  2. 5

Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy. This recipe yields a boozy, fruity cocktail with approximately 3.5 oz of rum (3 oz total rum + 0.5 oz brandy) and plenty of tropical flavor.
