Chop the Vegetables
Finely dice the onion, carrot, and celery. Mince the garlic cloves. Cut the tomatoes into quarters.

Add the Tomatoes and Broth
Add the quartered tomatoes to the pot along with the vegetable broth. Stir to combine.

Season the Soup
Add salt, black pepper, sugar, dried basil, and dried oregano to the pot. Stir well to incorporate all the flavors.

Simmer the Soup
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-25 minutes, until the tomatoes are fully softened.

Blend the Soup
Using an immersion blender, blend the soup until smooth. Alternatively, you can transfer the soup in batches to a blender, then return it to the pot.

Serve the tomato soup hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves. Pair it with slices of crusty bread for dipping.
