Crispy Calamari
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is essential for achieving a crispy texture.
- 2
Make the Breading Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to create an even coating mixture.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature for best results.
- 5
Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the dry breading mixture. Set aside on a plate.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Once the oil is hot, carefully add the breaded calamari rings in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with marinara sauce on the side.
