Method
Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm milk (110°F or 43°C) and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Prepare the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add the melted butter and vanilla extract. Mix in the activated yeast mixture.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not over-mix. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 4
Preheat Waffle Iron
Preheat your waffle iron according to manufacturer instructions.
- 5
Cook the Waffles
Once the batter has risen, give it a gentle stir. Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or melted butter. Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy, usually about 4-5 minutes.
- 6
Serve
Serve the waffles warm with syrup. Optionally, top with whipped cream, chocolate chips, or toasted pecans.
