Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dry Rub

In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are blended.

  2. 2

    Season the Pork

Rub the dry mixture generously over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is evenly coated on all sides. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Prepare the Smoker

Preheat your smoker to 225°F (107°C). Add wood chips of your choice for flavor, such as hickory or apple wood.

  2. 4

    Smoke the Pork

Remove the pork from the refrigerator and place it in the smoker. Smoke for approximately 8-10 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 195°F (90°C).

  3. 5

    Baste with Liquid Smoke Mixture

Mix the liquid smoke and apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle. Every hour, spray the pork to keep it moist and enhance the flavor.

Finishing Touches

  1. 6

    Rest the Meat

Once the pork reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the smoker and wrap it in aluminum foil. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 7

    Shred the Pork

After resting, use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve the smoked pulled pork on buns with your favorite BBQ sauce and a side of coleslaw.
