Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients
Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Add Boiling Water
Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Add Cream and Vanilla
Slowly stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce is heated through and thickened, about 5 minutes.
Assembly

Serve the Sundae
Place a slice of the chocolate cake on a plate. Top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Pour hot fudge sauce over the ice cream and cake.

Top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve immediately.
