Method

Cooking the Spaghetti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Preparing the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Garlic

Add 4 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 7

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 8

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.

Making the Meatballs (if using)

  1. 9

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley.

  2. 10

    Shape Meatballs

Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. 11

    Cook Meatballs

In a skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil and cook the meatballs for about 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until browned.

  4. 12

    Combine with Marinara
