Method
Cooking the Spaghetti

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

Drain and Set Aside
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Preparing the Marinara Sauce

Sauté Garlic
Add 4 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

Add Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

Simmer Sauce
Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish with Fresh Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
Making the Meatballs (if using)

Mix Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley.

Shape Meatballs
Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Combine with Marinara
Once cooked, add the meatballs to the marinara sauce and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
