Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 2 liters of water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Add 200 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.
Preparing Marinara Sauce
- 4
Sauté Onion and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 medium chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 5
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in 400 grams of canned tomatoes (crushed or whole) into the skillet. Add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir well to combine.
- 6
Simmer Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
- 7
Finish with Fresh Basil
Once the sauce has thickened, remove it from heat and stir in 5 fresh basil leaves, torn into pieces for added flavor.
Serving
- 8
Combine and Serve
Plate the drained spaghetti and top it generously with the marinara sauce. Serve hot with extra basil or grated cheese if desired.
