Method
Pasta Preparation
- 1
Cook the Spaghetti
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 2
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Reserve a cup of pasta water for later use.
Meat Sauce Preparation
- 3
- 4
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef to the pan, and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, about 6-8 minutes. Drain off excess fat if necessary.
- 5
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. If using, add the red wine. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 6
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach the desired consistency.
Final Assembly
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Once the sauce has simmered and the spaghetti is cooked, add the drained spaghetti to the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
- 8
Serve
Serve the spaghetti Bolognese hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
