Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the water.
- 2
Cook the Pasta
Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of pasta water.
Making the Sauce
- 4
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- 5
Add Tomatoes
Add the halved cherry tomatoes to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the tomatoes start to soften and break down.
- 6
Season the Sauce
Stir in chopped basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- 7
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to achieve desired sauce consistency.
- 8
Serve
Transfer the pasta to serving plates and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese. Garnish with additional basil if desired.
