Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Vegetables

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery, and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes and Broth

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and vegetable broth into the saucepan. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. 3

    Season the Sauce

Add the dried oregano, dried thyme, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the mixture. Stir to ensure the spices are evenly distributed throughout the sauce.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Sauce

Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook uncovered for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

  5. 5

    Finish with Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the chopped fresh basil leaves and cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
