Method
Preparing the Calamari
- 1
Clean the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps ensure a crispy texture.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well to combine.
- 3
Frying the Calamari
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the dry mixture until fully coated.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully place the coated calamari rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
Making the Dipping Sauce
- 8
Combine the Sauce Ingredients
In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, lemon juice, and hot sauce until smooth and well blended.
- 9
Serve with Calamari
Serve the dipping sauce alongside the fried calamari for a delicious pairing.
