Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-6 quarts of water to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Fettuccine

Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of the pasta water.

Making Alfredo Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic

Once the butter is melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Add Cream

Pour in 2 cups of heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Reduce heat to low and whisk in 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg until smooth.

  5. 8

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained fettuccine to the Alfredo sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.

Serving

  1. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Serve the Fettuccine Alfredo hot, garnished with chopped parsley.
