Method
Preparing the Salad
- 1
Wash the greens
Rinse the mixed greens under cold water to remove any dirt or grit. Spin them dry in a salad spinner or pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel.
- 2
Prepare the mozzarella
Slice the fresh mozzarella into bite-sized pieces or rounds, depending on your preference.
- 3
Slice the tomatoes
Wash the tomatoes and slice them into wedges or rounds, placing them in a large mixing bowl.
- 4
Chop the onion
Peel and thinly slice the red onion. If you prefer a milder flavor, you can soak the slices in cold water for a few minutes before adding them to the salad.
- 5
Add the basil
Gently tear the basil leaves into smaller pieces and add them to the mixing bowl with the tomatoes and onion.
- 6
Combine the salad
Add the washed mixed greens and sliced mozzarella to the mixing bowl. Toss the ingredients gently to combine without bruising the greens.
Making the Balsamic Vinaigrette
- 7
Mix the vinaigrette
In a small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, salt, and black pepper until well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Serving the Salad
- 8
Dress the salad
Drizzle the balsamic vinaigrette over the salad just before serving. Toss gently to ensure all ingredients are coated.
- 9
Serve
Transfer the salad to a serving platter or individual bowls. Enjoy your fresh Caprese salad!
