Cake Pop Base Preparation
- 1
Bake the Cake
Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the cake mix box. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until well combined.
- 2
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake according to the package instructions, usually about 25-30 minutes.
- 3
Cool the Cake
Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- 4
Crumble the Cake
Once the cake is completely cool, crumble it into a large bowl using your hands or a fork until it resembles fine crumbs.
- 5
Mix with Frosting
Add the cream cheese frosting to the crumbled cake and mix well until fully combined. The mixture should be moist enough to hold its shape.
- 6
Form Cake Balls
Using your hands, scoop out tablespoons of the mixture and roll them into balls about 1 inch in diameter. Place the balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Coating and Decorating
- 7
Melt Candy Melts
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the candy melts according to package instructions. Stir until smooth.
- 8
Insert Sticks
Dip the end of each lollipop stick into the melted candy, then insert it halfway into each cake ball. This will help the stick stay in place.
- 9
Chill the Cake Pops
Place the cake pops in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow them to set and firm up.
- 10
Coat Cake Pops
Once chilled, dip each cake pop into the melted candy, twisting to coat evenly. Allow any excess coating to drip off.
- 11
Decorate
While the coating is still wet, sprinkle with your choice of toppings such as sprinkles, crushed nuts, or coconut flakes.
- 12
Set the Cake Pops
Place the decorated cake pops upright in a styrofoam block or a cake pop stand to allow them to set completely.
