Apple Tatin Ingredients

Method

Apple Tatin Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples into wedges. Toss them with lemon juice and cinnamon.

  2. 2

    Make the Caramel

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the granulated sugar and continue to cook until it turns a golden caramel color.

  3. 3

    Add Fig Preserves

Stir in the fig preserves into the caramel until combined.

  4. 4

    Arrange Apples

Layer the apple wedges into the skillet, arranging them tightly in a circular pattern. Cook for about 10 minutes until the apples start to soften.

  5. 5

    Add Puff Pastry

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the skillet from heat and carefully lay the puff pastry over the apples, tucking the edges down into the skillet.

  6. 6

    Bake

Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Carefully invert onto a serving plate. Serve warm with whipped crème fraîche.
