Method
Prepare the Taro Tea Base
- 1
In a saucepan, combine 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
- 2
Once boiling, add 1 cup of taro powder and stir until fully dissolved.
- 3
Add 1 tablespoon of sugar to the mixture, adjusting sweetness to your preference. Stir well.
- 4
Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
- 5
Stir in 1 cup of milk (or non-dairy alternative) and mix until well combined.
- 6
Allow the taro tea base to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled.
Prepare the Tapioca Pearls
- 7
In a large pot, bring 6 cups of water to a rolling boil.
- 8
Add 1 cup of tapioca pearls to the boiling water.
- 9
Cook the tapioca pearls according to package instructions, usually about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 10
Once cooked, remove from heat and let the pearls sit in the hot water for an additional 10 minutes.
- 11
Drain the pearls and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process.
Assemble the Bubble Tea
- 12
In a glass, add the cooked tapioca pearls (about 1/4 cup).
- 13
Fill the glass with ice cubes (about 1 cup).
- 14
Pour the chilled taro tea base over the ice and pearls, filling the glass to the brim.
- 15
If desired, drizzle 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk on top for added sweetness and creaminess.
- 16
Taste the drink and add additional sugar if needed, stirring well to combine.
- 17
Serve immediately with a wide straw for easy sipping.
