Method
Preparing Sushi Rice
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear, about 3-4 times.
- 2
Cook the Rice
In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed sushi rice and water. Cook according to rice cooker instructions or bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low heat for 20 minutes.
- 3
Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
Preparing Sushi Fillings
- 4
Prepare the Fillings
Slice the fresh tuna and salmon sashimi into thin strips. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and slice it thinly.
- 5
Assemble the Sushi
Take a nori sheet and place it shiny side down on a bamboo sushi mat. Wet your hands to prevent sticking, and grab a handful of sushi rice. Spread the rice evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
- 6
Add Fillings
Place slices of tuna, salmon, and avocado horizontally across the rice. Roll the sushi tightly using the bamboo mat, applying gentle pressure.
- 7
Slice the Rolls
Using a sharp knife, slice the sushi roll into 6-8 pieces. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between cuts for clean slices.
Serving Sushi
- 8
Arrange the Platter
Place the sliced sushi rolls on a serving platter. Add additional slices of tuna and salmon sashimi beside the rolls.
- 9
Add Condiments
Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side for dipping.
