Method

Prepare the Dashi Broth

  1. 1

    Make the Dashi

In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add kombu (if using) and bonito flakes. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, then strain the broth to remove solids.

Combine Ingredients

  1. 2

    Mix Miso with Broth

Reduce heat to low and add 3 tablespoons of miso paste to the hot dashi broth. Use a whisk or a ladle to dissolve the miso paste completely.

  2. 3

    Add Tofu and Vegetables

Add the cubed tofu, chopped green onions, and dried wakame to the pot. If using optional add-ins like mushrooms or carrots, add them now as well.

Finish and Serve

  1. 4

    Heat Through

Allow the soup to heat gently for 2-3 minutes without boiling to ensure the tofu warms up and the flavors meld.

  2. 5

    Serve

Ladle the miso soup into bowls and garnish with additional green onions if desired. Serve immediately.
