Preparing the Pulled Pork

Prepare the Rub
In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Season the Pork
Rub the spice mixture generously over the pork shoulder, ensuring it is well coated on all sides.

Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Add apple cider vinegar and water. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the pork is tender and easy to shred.

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any excess fat. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix with BBQ sauce.

Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired.
