Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it's ready for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.

  5. 5

    Prepare the Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.

  6. 6

    Pour Batter and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, layer them with your desired frosting, if using, or serve plain.

  2. 9

    Add Ice Cream

Place a slice of the chocolate cake on a plate and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
