Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Ramekins

Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with flour to prevent sticking.

  3. 3

    Melt Butter and Chocolate

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and semisweet chocolate chips over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  4. 4

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

  5. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the melted chocolate mixture with the eggs and egg yolks. Add the vanilla extract and stir until well combined.

  6. 6

    Incorporate Dry Ingredients

Gradually fold in the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

  7. 7

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  8. 8

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

Serving Instructions

  1. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them sit for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate to release the cakes.

  2. 10

    Add Ice Cream

Top each warm chocolate lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  3. 11

    Dust with Powdered Sugar

Sprinkle powdered sugar over the cakes and serve immediately.
