Fried Onion Rings

Method

Fried Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 0.5-inch thick rings. Separate the rings from each other and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Soak in Buttermilk

Place the onion rings in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes to tenderize and flavor the onions.

  3. 3

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika until well combined.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Coat the Onion Rings

Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge each ring in the flour mixture, making sure to coat them evenly.

  6. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
