Fried Mushrooms

Method

Fried Mushrooms

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mushrooms

Clean the mushrooms thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a paper towel and slice them into halves or quarters depending on their size.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Mixture

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Wet Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk until well combined.

  4. 4

    Coat the Mushrooms

Take each mushroom piece and first dip it into the wet mixture, allowing any excess to drip off. Then coat it in the breading mixture, pressing gently to adhere the flour mixture to the mushroom.

  5. 5

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. To test if the oil is hot enough, you can drop a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles and bubbles, it’s ready.

  6. 6

    Fry the Mushrooms

Carefully add the coated mushrooms to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Drain and Garnish

Once fried, remove the mushrooms with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with chopped parsley for garnish.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve the fried mushrooms hot as an appetizer or snack, with your favorite dipping sauce.
