Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare three 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them and lining with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add the whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing on medium speed until combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter; it will be thin, but this is normal.

  6. 6

    Bake the Layers

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Layers

Remove the pans from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
