Brown Butter-Washed Bourbon
Cocktail Mix
Method
Brown Butter-Washing the Bourbon
- 1
Brown the Butter
In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir continuously until the butter turns a golden brown color and develops a nutty aroma. Be careful not to burn it.
- 2
- 3
Chill and Strain
After resting, place the container in the freezer for about 30 minutes, or until the butter solidifies. Once solid, strain the bourbon through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to remove the solidified butter.
Mixing the Cocktail
- 4
Muddle Blackberries
In a cocktail shaker, add the 6 fresh blackberries. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush the blackberries to release their juices.
- 5
Add Ingredients
To the shaker, add the brown butter-washed bourbon (about 2 oz), 0.5 oz of Creme de Cassis, 0.75 oz of fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz of simple syrup.
- 6
Shake it Up
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
- 7
Strain and Serve
Strain the mixture into a chilled coupe glass or rocks glass filled with ice. Optionally, garnish with a blackberry or a lemon twist.
