Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the frothy yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil into the well.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Cooking Naan

  1. 6

    Divide the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.

  2. 7

    Roll Out the Naan

On a floured surface, roll each dough ball into an oval or teardrop shape, about ¼ inch thick.

  3. 8

    Preheat Cooking Surface

Heat a cast-iron skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat until hot.

  4. 9

    Cook the Naan

Place the rolled naan on the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 10

    Add Toppings (Optional)

If desired, brush the cooked naan with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic and chopped cilantro.

  6. 11

    Serve

Remove the naan from the skillet and keep warm in a towel until serving. Enjoy with your favorite dishes!
