Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Rice
Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse it under cold water. Swirl the rice with your hand to remove excess starch until the water runs clear. This helps to prevent the rice from becoming gummy.
- 2
Measure Water
In a medium saucepan, measure out 1.5 cups of water. For a richer flavor, you can substitute some of the water with broth.
- 3
Add Salt and Optional Butter/Oil
Add 0.5 tsp of salt to the water. If you prefer a richer flavor, add 1 tablespoon of butter or oil at this stage.
Cooking
- 4
Combine Rice and Water
Add the rinsed jasmine rice to the saucepan with the water mixture.
- 5
Bring to a Boil
Turn the heat to high and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
- 6
Cover and Simmer
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid. Let the rice simmer for about 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
- 7
Check and Fluff
After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork.
