Bolognese Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4-5 liters of water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt to the pot.

  3. 3

    Cook Spaghetti

Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  4. 4

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Optionally, drizzle with a little olive oil to prevent sticking.

Making Bolognese Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  2. 6

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. 7

    Brown the Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.

  4. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Mix well.

  5. 9

    Season the Sauce

Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

  6. 10

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Serving

  1. 11

    Combine and Serve

Serve the spaghetti topped with the Bolognese sauce and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese.
