Dough

Method

Prepare the Dough

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well with a whisk or spoon.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the olive oil and water. Mix with a fork until it starts to come together.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

  4. 4

    Let It Rest

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap or cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.

Prepare the Topping

  1. 5

    Chop the Garlic

Peel and finely chop the garlic cloves. If using, chop the fresh cilantro as well.

Cook the Naan

  1. 6

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.

  2. 7

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out each ball into a flat oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Cook on Hot Surface

Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Place one rolled-out naan in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until bubbles form and the bottom is golden brown.

  4. 9

    Flip and Add Topping

Flip the naan, and immediately brush the top with melted butter or ghee. Sprinkle with the chopped garlic and cilantro, pressing them gently into the naan.

  5. 10

    Finish Cooking

Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the second side is golden and the garlic is fragrant. Repeat for the remaining pieces.
