Prepare the pickles
Drain the dill pickle chips thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Make the batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Add wet ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.

Coat the pickles
Working in batches, dip each pickle chip into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off.

Fry the pickles
Carefully place the battered pickle chips into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
