Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the pickles

Drain the dill pickle chips thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

Battering

  1. 2

    Make the batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  2. 3

    Add wet ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; do not overmix.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the oil

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat the pickles

Working in batches, dip each pickle chip into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry the pickles

Carefully place the battered pickle chips into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve

Serve the fried pickles warm with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or spicy mayo.
