Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean the Mushrooms

Rinse the fresh button mushrooms under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove the stems and set aside the caps.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the milk. Stir to combine. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.

  2. 4

    Batter the Mushrooms

Dip each mushroom cap into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  3. 5

    Fry the Mushrooms

Carefully place the battered mushrooms into the hot oil, a few at a time, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve with Ranch Dressing

Arrange the fried mushrooms on a serving platter and serve hot with ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
