Cheese Curds

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Soak Cheese Curds

In a bowl, combine the fresh cheese curds and buttermilk. Ensure the curds are well-coated and let them soak for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator to enhance flavor.

Breading

  1. 2

    Prepare Breading Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure all dry ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. 3

    Prepare Egg Wash

In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the water until fully combined.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Coat Cheese Curds

Remove cheese curds from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dip each curd into the egg wash, allowing excess to drip off, then coat it in the flour mixture. Ensure each curd is fully covered.

  3. 6

    Fry Cheese Curds

Carefully place the coated cheese curds into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  4. 7

    Serve

Serve the fried cheese curds hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or marinara sauce.
