Steak or Chicken

Hashbrowns or Tater Barrels

Method

Prepare the Steak or Chicken

  1. 1

    Prepare the Breading

In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another shallow bowl, whisk together eggs and milk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Bread the Steak or Chicken

Dip each piece of country fried steak or crispy chicken into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and back into the flour mixture to coat evenly.

Cook the Steak or Chicken

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.

  2. 5

Fry the Coated Steak or Chicken

Carefully add the breaded steak or chicken to the hot oil. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Prepare the Sausage Gravy

  1. 6

    Cook the Sausage

In a medium saucepan, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.

  2. 7

    Make the Gravy

Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.

Prepare the Hashbrowns or Tater Barrels

  1. 8

Cook the Hashbrowns or Tater Barrels

In a separate skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add frozen hashbrowns or tater barrels and season with salt and black pepper. Cook until crispy and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Serve

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

On each plate, serve a piece of fried steak or chicken, top with sausage gravy, and serve alongside hashbrowns or tater barrels.

  2. 10

    Add Eggs

Fry or scramble the eggs to your desired doneness and serve alongside the steak and hashbrowns.
