Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Shape the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions (each weighing about 1/4 pound). Shape each portion into a round patty, about 4-5 inches in diameter and about 3/4 inch thick.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Ensure it's hot before adding the patties.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3 minutes. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to let it melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are cooking, slice the Kaiser buns in half. You can toast them lightly on the grill or in a toaster if preferred.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by one patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
