Chili Base

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Brown the Meat

In a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the diced onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper to the pot. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 3

    Add Remaining Ingredients

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and water. Mix well to combine all ingredients.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Chili

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let the chili simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 5

    Prepare Toppings

While the chili is simmering, prepare the toppings by shredding the cheddar cheese, chopping the green onions, and placing the sour cream in a serving dish.

  2. 6

    Serve the Chili

Once the chili has thickened and flavors have melded together, ladle it into bowls. Top each bowl with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of chopped green onions.
