Chili Base

Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Sauté the Base

In a large pot over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add diced onions and minced garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent (about 3-5 minutes).

  2. 2

    Brown the Meat

Add ground beef to the pot, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes).

  3. 3

    Add Vegetables

Stir in diced red and green bell peppers, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until they soften.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Add canned diced tomatoes, drained kidney beans, drained black beans, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, black pepper, and beef broth. Stir well to combine.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Chili

Bring the chili to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer uncovered for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Serving

  1. 6

    Prepare the Bowl

Once the chili has thickened and flavors have melded, ladle 16 oz. of chili into a serving bowl.

  2. 7

    Add Toppings

Top the chili with shredded cheddar cheese, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of chopped green onions.

  3. 8

    Enjoy

Serve hot and enjoy your delicious large chili!
