For the Fried Pickles

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the pickle slices and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until fully combined.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large saucepan or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle immediately.

  2. 5

    Breading the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, then coat it thoroughly with the flour-cornmeal mixture. Shake off any excess breading.

  3. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully place the breaded pickles into the hot oil (do this in batches to avoid overcrowding). Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway through for even cooking.

  4. 7

    Drain the Pickles

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Serve the fried pickles warm with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing or spicy ketchup.
